More about Monkeys

In the past 20 years or so, I have made an annual pilgrimage to The Top of the Rock of Gibraltar to visit these remarkable, amusing and almost human-like creatures. Of the thousands of images recorded I selected a few representative ones to portray the antics of these little guys. They love to interact with visitors, often jumping on top of vehicles, and if a visitor is unwary, the apes will “steal” an unguarded treat or two.   As the only tailless monkey species, the Macaques males are also unique in devoting lavish attention to infants of the pack. The apes’ arrival on the Rock fosters much speculation; including the sailors’ story, but it is likely that the animals were brought to Gibraltar by the Moors from the Barbary.  However the apes arrived, today they provide endless entertainment for visitors to this far flung outpost of British heritage. Enjoy the images and thanks for your visit to the web site.
